Our Musical Director
After Aidan Bradley’s six years with the Philharmonic, Matthew Quinn will take over as Musical Director in September 2019. Matthew graduated from the University of Manchester where he read music and is pursuing a career in musical direction/conducting and vocal performance.
Matthew’s passion for conducting prompted him several years ago while still a teenager to start his own chamber choir in his home city of Belfast. The choir offered young singers in Northern Ireland chances to explore exciting and challenging choral works. It produced successful concerts across Northern Ireland.
In his second year of study in Manchester Matthew was selected for the choral and orchestral conducting training programme under Robert Guy and Mark Heron. The programme saw him conducting the Ad Solem Chamber Choir, the Cosmos Choir, the University of Manchester Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra.
He is currently the Musical Director of Hallam Choral Society in Sheffield, of A Cappella Singers in Wiltshire and of the Staffordshire Chamber Orchestra. He has also been musical director for several musical theatre productions. He recently won the RTE Concert Orchestra/Feis Ceoil Orchestral Conducting Award.
As well as a passionate conductor, Matthew is a keen tenor. Highlights include tenor soloist in Haydn’s St Nicholas Mass, Handel’s Messiah, and Mozart’s Coronation Mass.
