Musical Director Recruitment

Recruitment update 7 January 2020

We are very pleased that 14 people highly competent and experienced people have applied to be our Musical Director. Their number and quality make shortlisting that much harder, but it’s a good problem to have.

The selection panel consists of the five main officers on our Committee: chair, secretary, treasurer, membership secretary and librarian.  They will shortlist very soon and invite the shortlisted applicants to audition by taking a rehearsal before an interview.  The panel will invite the whole choir to share their impressions after the auditions. The auditions will also give each applicant chance to see the choir in action and make their own assessment!

We are looking for …

… a musical director with experience of choral conducting. You will need the ability to coach and inspire amateur singers, making rehearsals enjoyable learning opportunities. Your selection of our repertoire will underpin this ability. Beyond that, the success of our concerts will depend on your recruitment of soloists and instrumentalists. We would like you to commit yourself to the role for at least 2 years and preferably longer.

We offer …

…in return the support of an active management committee – as well as £60 per rehearsal and £120 per concert.

We are …

… a well-established 50-strong SATB choir,  we offer people chance to enjoy and perform music in the European classical tradition. As a matter of principle we are open to all without audition, but we do expect members to attend our weekly rehearsals and to perform in our three annual concerts in St. Paul’s Church, Withington, Manchester.

We will select …

… in January 2020 with a view to the successful candidate starting in May.

If you would like to help us to develop the choir further …

… you should send your CV by December 20th to our chair,Paul Bradbury, at bradburys1950@hotmail.com and contact him meanwhile at that address or on 07926225014 if you have any enquiries.
